Some Thoughts For Those Leading Through Covid 19

I don’t think any of us could have predicted what it would look like to navigate our people through this time. We are certainly sailing through unchartered waters! Whether we are leading a business, a ministry, a school or our families, people are looking to us to make decisions we might not have had to make before. Along with the decisions we are called on to make, our people are also eager for words of encouragement and hope. God has called us to be people of faith in His goodness and to proclaim His truth over the facts.

The scriptures tell us to call the things that are not as though they are. We are declaring healing and peace and strength over our people and our nations. This is a time like never before for the Church to arise and be a beacon of Hope in the middle of chaos and fear. It’s not only what we do as leaders in times like this but also what perception we are creating.

We are to stand in faith as well as model what the scriptures say regarding how we respond to direction from those in authority. Let’s have a look at what the word says regarding this:

“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”‭‭ Romans‬ ‭13:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.”‭‭ 1 Peter‬ ‭2:13-14‬ ‭NIV

‬‬“Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,”‭‭ Titus‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭NIV

‬‬As those called to lead, let’s model faith in what we say and do. Let’s also model obedience to His word as to how we respond to those in governmental authority. May I strongly encourage you in whatever sphere you’re leading in, to take seriously the uncomfortable restrictions because that is what is being asked of us. They are for our safety, the consideration of others and for the sake of our nations. I believe obeying these restrictions is not a lack of faith but rather an honoring of what the Lord requires of us.

Obedience does not always mean agreement (if you’re a parent you know that many times we require obedience from our children and they do not agree with us!) Though our church buildings may be closed, the Church has not closed and will continue to thrive as has been demonstrated through the ages.
