Let the peace of God rule…
Years ago someone was sharing their healing journey with me and how they had been set free from anxiety. I wanted to know what had been most helpful to them as this was something I myself had struggled with as many of us do. This friend of mine took me to the well known scripture in Galatians 5:22 as her key to freedom:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” - Galatians 5:22-23 NIV
I realized at that moment that no matter what I’m feeling, I can never escape immediate access to His peace because I carry His peace within me. There is no where we will find ourselves where His peace is not in us for us and for others.
There are so many beautiful verses about Gods peace. Let’s look at a few and what this means for us in our daily walk:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
The peace of God acts as a shield to guard our hearts from absorbing anxiety. There will be seasons and moments that are hard and will trigger feelings of fear and anxiety, but heavens supernatural peace is designed to rise above fear and surpass the circumstances. Without ignoring the storms that come, we can walk above the storm, because He lives.
“Now, may the Lord himself, the Lord of peace, pour into you his peace in every circumstance and in every possible way. The Lord’s tangible presence be with you all.” - 2 Thessalonians 3:16 TPT
I love this picture of the Lord of peace (Prince of Peace) pouring his peace into us! Imagine yourself standing under a waterfall and peace is washing over you and into every fiber of your being! There is no circumstance we will face where His peace won’t find us!
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” - Isaiah 26:3 NIV
“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” - Romans 8:6 NIV
These two verses both speak of our minds. What we focus on will affect our emotions. When we choose to turn our attention onto the Lords peace, declaring His truth, we will begin to experience a naturally supernatural leaning into the One greater than the world around us. We are surrounded by many fearful reports every day but these cannot be our primary focus. We do not need to be ignorant of current affairs but they should not dominate our mind space. Our beautiful savior offers us His peace, not as the world gives, but as only he can!
My prayer for all of us is that we will discover what it’s like to access heavens peace, which is always ours. May His peace be our default setting!
“And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ's] one body you were also called [to live]….” - Colossians 3:15 AMPC
